Meet Brigette Muller, also known as Hummusbird. Based in New York City, Brigette spends her time finding beauty in her surroundings to create honest & relevant content. Up until Covid-19, Brigette was travelling around the world with Bumble, the social app that exists to build connections. While the word connection has taken on a bit of a different meaning in these past six weeks, one thing that remains the same is the power of connection and just how necessary it is to us as humans. Whether it’s physical, emotional or social connection, we’ve found ourselves doing our best to stay connected in whatever ways possible.
In our recurring series, My Plant Life, we’re profiling those who educate, motivate and inspire us. Below, Brigette is sharing her thoughts on life in NY under quarantine, her go-to easy recipe and her favorite plants to incorporate into her daily routine.
Tell us who you are and what you do.
“I’m a content creator—I love creating and sharing little bits and pieces that inspire me and make me laugh, whether it be extraordinary or totally mundane.”
Tell us about some of your favorite plants. How do you incorporate them into your life?
“I love filling my space with houseplants. Philodendrons are my faves—I adore the way they look draped over a wall. I also incorporate a lot of plants into my diet with herbal supplements. One of my current favorites is a powerful blend of Ayurvedic herbs that detoxifies the blood.”
Tell us your philosophy on “wellness” and what it means to you.
“To me, to be well is to experience a lightness and harmony in all aspects of the self (physical/mental/emotional/spiritual), as well as in all aspects of one’s external life.”
Do you have any sustainable practices? If so, please share!
“I bring tote bags evvvverywhere! And I have a set of reusable bamboo utensils that are always in my purse. I also really love shopping vintage and second hand for a lot of my clothes, accessories, and home decor.”
What’s one thing you do to keep your immune system strong and resilient?
“I try my best to eat whole, real foods, and have a robust arsenal of supplements. Both of these things I do by consulting my intuition to decipher what my body needs at any given moment.”
How have you been handling things since the pandemic began? Do you have any tips for staying sane during this time?
“I’ve been counting my blessings. I’m incredibly lucky to have my health, my job, and my home right now, and not a day goes by that I don’t feel such gratitude for these things. My biggest tip for staying sane is to try your best to keep a balance overall. Like, I have no problem eating a full-sized bag of potato chips by myself, but maybe I’ll only do that once a week, and not every day. Also, don’t be so hard on yourself (trying to remember that for myself, too.)!”
Your go-to easy recipe?
“Over-easy eggs with pickles, mayo, ketchup, and Himalayan salt on a toasted gluten-free english muffin. I call it the faux burger, and you are not permitted to judge until you try it yourself.”
Your favorite place to travel and why.
“Anywhere that’s lush and green. It’s where I feel the biggest sense of calm, and most connected to myself.”
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
“I talk about it a lot on Instagram, but I think upon first meeting me, people would be surprised to learn I’m an introvert and an empath. I’m really friendly and outgoing but being around people drains me big time. I always need ample alone time to recharge.”
